WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Virtually every NHL GM who talked trade with the Ducks before the March 13 deadline inquired about Bryzgalov, according to GM Pierre Gauthier. "He's having a tremendous year," Gauthier said. Bryzgalov's 6-foot-3, 196-pound size alone makes him a promising prospect, but it is his competitiveness and ability that has the Ducks most excited. Bryzgalov, 20, had recorded eight shutouts by early March." (Dan Wood, The Hockey News Future Watch 2001)

"His stock has definitely soared. Ducks' second-round selection (44th overall) in 2000 had a breakout season with Lada Togliatti of the Russian Hockey League. Has the competitiveness all teams look for in a goalkeeper. The Ducks dealt a number of picks to trade up so they could select him in 2000. At 6-3 and 196 pounds, Bryzgalov covers a lot of net. He has the reflexes, positioning and mental game to be a top goaltender." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 199)

"An impressive training-camp performance with the Ducks was a precursor to Bryzgalov's American League all-star campaign at Cincinnati. Bryzgalov [has] been nearly impenetrable at times, but has also struggled through inconsistent periods. Anaheim wants to give Bryzgalov ample time to hone his technique and complete an adjustment to the North American style before summoning him. At 6-foot-3 and 198 pounds, Bryzgalov has the size and athletic ability that make him one of the top netminding prospects anywhere." (Dan Wood, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)

"Bryzgalov has been progressing steadily the past couple of years and made the transition to the North American game last season with the Cincinnati Ducks, where he was an AHL all-star. With Giguere on hand, the Ducks won't need Bryzgalov anytime soon so they will be patient with him. He possesses tremendous size and reflexes, and gives the Ducks great depth in goal." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 193)

"Largely because of a lack of talent around him, Bryzgalov has not done a lot of winning with Cincinnati (AHL), despite compiling solid statistics. Before he arrives in Anaheim, team brass is hopeful Bryzgalov will experience a winning environment there. While still adjusting in just his second season in North America, the native of Togliatti, Russia, has a nice blend of size, skill and athletic ability." (Dan Wood, The Hockey News Future Watch 2003)

"After dealing Swiss netminder Martin Gerber to Carolina last summer, Bryzgalov will finally get his shot as Anaheim's second stringer. He possesses outstanding size for the goaltending position, and now boasts four full seasons of pro hockey in North America. The time is now for Bryzgalov to prove he can handle backup duty." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 99)
