WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Excellent reflex stopper is penciled in as No. 1 man in the minors next season." (The Hockey News Future Watch 2000)

"Caron's stock rose considerably this past season. Led the Q-League in wins and was named the Memorial Cup's Top Goaltender as he backstopped Rimouski to a CHL title. A workhorse goalie who needs to bulk up. Has given the organization some hope for the future." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 109)

"Wiry thin at 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds, Caron thrives in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton when he was sharing duty with Rich Parent. When Parent was called up and Caron was forced to carry the load, he struggled. Caron needs to work on his upper body strength and puck-handling. He's tentative at times. When he loses confidence, he hangs back instead of challenging shooters. Given the Penguins' uncertain goaltending situation, Caron may get a chance to prove himself sooner than anyone things, although next season is probably unrealistic." (Joe Starkey, The Hockey News Future Watch 2001)

"After an awesome showing at the 2000 Memorial Cup, Caron graduated to the pro ranks last year. He posted solid numbers but struggled when given the lead role. However, the future is still bright for the young keeper. Should spend the next couple of years as the top stopper in the minors and the third-string keeper for the Penguins. The butterfly goalie could eventually make an excellent backup." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 111)

"Caron has rebounded nicely from a disastrous start with Wilkes-Barre. He won just three of his first 20 decisions, but bounced back with a five-game unbeaten streak. Caron is a classic butterfly goalie who has a tendency to overplay his hand and give shooters the upper part of the net. He does have tremendous reflexes, however." (Derrick Goold, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)

"Caron posted a respectable .903 save percentage but could only win 14 of 46 games as he toiled with the disappointing Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Caron plays the butterfly style and made progress last season as he moved fron the backup role to the starter role." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 109)

"This quick, athletic goalie surprised everybody when he joined the Penguins and delivered two shutouts in his first five starts. Caron was average during his AHL season in Wilkes-Barre, with a .904 save percentage. A classic butterfly goalie, he is extremely quick from post to post. He has a good glove hand and a winner's attitude. He is not a good puckhandler and sometimes goes down too quickly, leaving the upper part of the net available." (Joe Starkey, The Hockey News Future Watch 2003, p. 32)

"Training camp could be Caron's final shot to prove he belongs. Moreover, the arrival of Jocelyn Thibault, along with the continued presence of prospects Marc-Andre Fleury and Andy Chiodo, will seriously diminish his chances of ever playing a key role in Pittsburgh. He needs a change of scenery." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 99)
