Andy made his National Hockey League debut on February 18, 2004, as his Pittsburgh Penguins faced the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. Chiodo made thirty saves in the 4-3 defeat. "I was so entrenched in the moment, I didn't have time to be that nervous," Chiodo said. "It was pretty exciting the first time I was standing on that ice. I'll never forget that moment."
In his third career start, Andy earned his first National Hockey League victory on February 25, 2004, when the Penguins defeated the Phoenix Coyotes at Glendale Arena. In doing so, Andy helped the Penguins erase an eighteen-game winless streak. "It's pretty exciting in light of hard this team has worked and suffered an unfortunate fate the last little while." It almost didn't happen for Chiodo, as the Coyotes built up a 3-1 lead, but the Penguins battled back to tie before Ric Jackman potted the game-winner 1:48 into overtime. In the game, the Penguins had to kill off two five-on-three power plays.

On December 6, 2003, Andy was ejected from the Wilkes-Barre Penguins game at Binghamton for fighting with Senators' goaltender Ray Emery.
On March 21, 2004, Andy fought Hershey's Philippe Sauve.
