Entry in "Inside Sports: Hockey": Backbone of six Stanley Cup champions with Montreal in the 1970s. Won Smythe, Calder and Vezina Trophies and recorded miniscule 2.24 goals-against average in 397 N.H.L. games.

On Seeing Himself on Television: "This was only the second time in my life I'd ever seen myself on television, and it shattered a lot of illusions. I looked like a big stiff. What a sobering experience. I always thought of myself as Nureyev on ice. But on TV, I realized that I was a dump truck. I was an elephant on wheels."

Hal Bock on Dryden's rookie season: "Dryden had started the (1970-71) season in a noble experiment. He had decided to turn pro with the Montreal organization under a complicated schedule that would permit him to combine his hockey playing with his career as a full-time law student at Montreal's McGill University. He rushed from law class at McGill to hockey practice with the Montreal Voyageurs, the Canadiens' farm team in the American Hockey League. On road trips, while other players occupied themselves with paperback novels, Dryden read heavy material like the Civil Codes of Quebec. It was, to say the least, no easy schedule to follow, but then Ken Dryden was no average athlete-scholar." (Hal Bock, "Save! Hockey's Brave Goalies", 1974.)
