Brian made his National Hockey League debut on October 10, 2007, at Philips Arena in Atlanta. With Ottawa number-one Ray Emery recovering from offseason wrist surgery, Elliott was on the Senators' roster backing up Martin Gerber. Given the start against Atlanta, Elliott was superb, making twenty-seven saves in a 3-1 victory. According to Elliott: "It was a surprise. You're nervous. You're playing in the NHL. It's a game you have to be prepared for, and I was prepared. From age seven, this has been my goal."
Elliott made several key saves, including a brilliant one on Alexei Zhitnik, whom he robbed with a right pad save on the back end of a give-and-go pass early in the third period. "He played great," said Atlanta netminder Kari Lehtonen. "When they're going with a guy who's playing his first NHL game, you think you have the advantage. But he proved us wrong. He played tremendous."
