WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"A year ago, all eyes were on Stephane Fiset as the untested, then 23-year old goaltender replaced the departed Hextall in the nets. Fiset wasn't terrible, but he never won any games single-handedly like Hextall did the previous year. He didn't really act like a No. 1 goalie." (The Sporting News 1994-95 Hockey Yearbook, p. 62)

"The Avalanche said thanks to Stephane Fiset by giving him away to the Kings. Fiset was a good soldier who never griped when Patrick Roy played every playoff minute. Fiset is a legit No. 1 goalie who was 22-6-7 last year with a 2.93 goals-against average, and he's only 26." (The Sporting News Hockey Yearbook 1996-97, p. 79)

"Stephane Fiset still needs to prove he can be a consistent No. 1 goalie." (The Hockey News 1997-98 Yearbook, p. 119)

"The Kings have capable, but not outstanding, goaltending. Stephane Fiset was plagued by injuries last season and underwent hernia surgery in mid-April. He was solid at times, but didn't show he belongs in NHL's top echelon." (The Hockey News 1997-98 Yearbook, p. 121)

"Going from Hrudey to Fiset has been an underrated improvement. Fiset isn't part of the elite but the goaltending situation had been the team's weak link for many years." (The Sports Forecaster Hockey '97-'98, p. 215)

"Obviously, this has been a breakthrough year for him. He backed up Hextall in Quebec and Patrick Roy in Montreal [sic]. They traded Dafoe and now it's his show. He kind of goes against the trend of goalies today- that is, he's easier to beat down low than up top. He stands up more than a lot of them now. The latest 'theory' is to cover the bottom of the net. Not this guy. You want the puck low or along the ice against him." (Theoren Fleury, ESPN Sportszone, April 1998)

"The veteran of 10 NHL seasons has yet to establish himself among the game's elite. However, it would be difficult to find a better team player from the goaltending position than the likable Fiset. Having played on some very bad teams in the past hasn't helped Fiset's confidence. However, when he is on his game, he can dominate because of his combination of size and incredible acrobatics. Whether a No. 1 or 1A goaltender, Fiset will always give his best. He's still capable of blossoming into a star if given the proper surroundings." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 206)

"Already a 10-year veteran, Fiset is a solid, everyday goalie. His combination of size and acrobatics enable him to accomplish spectacular, mind-boggling stops. While his consistency has been questioned before, Fiset, who has often played on defensively challenged clubs, has kept his save percentage well above the .900 mark for most of his career. Fiset is well respected in Los Angeles. The Kings know they'll always get an honest effort from him. But goaltending mate Jamie Storr has upped his play and is a lot younger. While that won't necessarily push Fiset to the backburner, expect him to shoulder a lesser load from now on." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 203)

"Fiset's 2000-01 season was wiped out by a major knee injury that saw the veteran backstop appear in only seven games. He came back for the playoffs and became Felix Potvin's backup in the process. Now, he faces a monster training-camp battle with Jamie Storr to determine Potvin's understudy for the upcoming campaign. Neither Fiset nor Storr was ever able to grab the No. 1 job in L.A.. Fiset is the early favorite to win the backup job during training camp. He's the more experienced netminder and has always been a tremendous team player. However, he must also show that his knee has fully healed and that he can still stop the puck on a consistent basis." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 209)

"Fiset's knee woes are hopefully a thing of the past. Brought in to back up Jose Theodore in Montreal last year, he's free again and could fill in as a 20- to 25-game second stringer somewhere." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 216)
