- Emile's son, Bobby, enjoyed a mostly minor-league career, before embarking on a coaching career in 1987.
- After his playing career, Emile served as coach, general manager, and president for various National Hockey League teams, including the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Hartford Whalers.
- In 2001, the American Hockey League introduced the Emile Francis Trophy, to be given to the regular-season champions of the AHL North Division.
