On October 11, 1979, defenseman Raymond Bourque scored the first goal of his illustrious career against Hamel, at 9:33 of the second period. Bourque's Bruins won the game, 4-0.
On February 1, 1980, Wayne Gretzky picked up the first of his National Hockey League-record thirty-seven hat tricks, and Pierre was in goal for the first two (he was pulled in favour of Markus Mattson before "The Great One" scored his third). Edmonton beat Hamel's Jets, 9-2.
