WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
"Hirsch was upset when he was demoted to the Binghamton Rangers of the American
League following the Olympics last year and again at the end of training camp
this season. He believes he's ready for the big league. Hisrsch is waiting
for a trade, most likely involving Healy or himself.
"Those things will be worked out," said Rangers director of player development
Larry Pleau. "Those will be dictated in the next four or five months. We
can't go into the waiver draft next september with Healy and Hirsch, because
one will be available."" (Rick Carpiniello, The Hockey News Future Watch
1995)
"A winner at every level, he won starting job in playoffs and won't give it
back." (ESPN Hockey 96, p. 95)
"Hirsch proved to be a large disappointment in his second, his
collision with the sophomore jinx a surprise to all."
(The Hockey News 1997-98 Yearbook, p. 177)
"Kirk McLean and Corey Hirsch were simply awful
last year. They're both capable of playing better, with Hirsch the favorite
to be the starter when the regular season starts."
(The Sports Forecaster Hockey '97-'98, p. 51)
"The gravestones added to his "Psycho" mask before the season seemed to be
deadly for Corey Hirsch. After an impressive rookie season, the netminder fell
into a terrible sophomore jinx last year. He hit rock bottom, allowing 28
goals during a 0-5-0 stretch in which he was recovering from the flu - he
lost 15 pounds and only weighed 160 pounds to begin with. He even changed
the design on his mask to no avail." (The Sports Forecaster Hockey '97-'98,
p. 230)
"Hirsch hasn't been able to live up to expectations after a stellar AHL
career. At 27, he needs to find his game again or risk being buried in the
minors. Capable of playing great in short spurts, Hirsch may not be big enough
to handle the load. He has excellent reflexes, but gives up bad goals too
often. Hirsch should get back into the NHL eventually, as expansion rolls
around once again. A backup role may be his only hope." (The Sports
Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 220)
"Hasn't panned into the star puck stopper many had initially projected
following some glory days as an AHLer and a member of the Canadian national
squad in the early '90s. A backup role now seems to be Hirsch's best
hope for NHL employment. A member of the NHL's All-Rookie Team in 1995-96,
Hirsch is an impressive reflex goalie but lets in too many softies." (The
Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 217)
"Hirsch has played only one NHL game in the past three years and has tried his
luck with five different organizations. He has decent overall ability but
has never made the most of his limited opportunities." (The Sports
Forecaster 2002-03, p. 217)
