QUOTABLE

"Any time you speak of the Calgary Flames there is a question about their goaltending. But the guys in the room have confidence in me." (USA Today: January 24, 1995)

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"He'll rebound from his sophomore jitters or go to Portland in the '97 expansion." (ESPN Hockey 96, p. 111)

"The Flames reacquired Rick Tabaracci which leads to speculation that Kidd might be moved mostly due to his character." (The Sports Forecaster Hockey '97-'98, p. 197)

"Was heralded as the future of goaltending when he was drafted in 1990. Kidd flickered as a Flame and was moved to Carolina two years ago. The Panthers have to hope that he can play more like he did in 1994-95 when he was one of the league's best. An instinct goalie, Kidd can look like a junior on some goals, but when he's hot, he sizzles. The starting job is his to win. At worst, he'll fill the role of a veteran backup." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 136)

"Erroneously picked ahead of New Jersey's Martin Brodeur by Calgary in 1990, Kidd still has a way to go before becoming the steady, franchise goalie scouts had pegged him to be. Was outstanding during the early stages last season but couldn't regain his form after suffering a shoulder injury in December during the team's skills competition. A big, scrambling goalie who can get white-hot. Kidd posted a horrendous 1-8 record to close out the season. With the arrival of promising young buck Roberto Luongo, Kidd had better keep an eye open." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 125)

"Once upon a time, Kidd was the hotshot rookie trying to dislodge a veteran netminder. It was 1993-94 in Calgary and the veteran he displaced was Mike Vernon. Last season, the shoe was on the other foot as Roberto Luongo upstaged the inconsistent eight-year veteran to take over the reigns as Florida's main man between the pipes. AT 29, Kidd is hardly an old man himself. However, barring a trade, he must get used to life as a backup goaltender. The 6-2 190-pounder appeared in 42 games with the Panthers last season but may have to get used to the 25- to 30-game level from now one. Kidd will team with Luongo to form one of the best tandems in the NHL - unless there is a team interested in the former as a No. 1 goaltender once again." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 127)

"Kidd is a free spirit and a breath of fresh air with his carefree lifestyle and unorthodox haircuts. A former starter, he is now playing second fiddle to rising star Roberto Luongo. He has gone two straight seasons with a goals-against average above 3.00 and a save percentage below .900. He'll need to improve upon those numbers dramatically if he still has delusions of grandeur. As long as he remains a Panther, Kidd will spend more time on the bench than anywhere else. However, he must come up big in his limited appearances this season or his career could be headed even further south." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 125)
