- Vitali made his National Hockey League debut on December 7, 2005, at the Pepsi Center in Denver,
Colorado. Looking to shake up his club, Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville recalled Kolesnik the day
before, prompting rumours that Colorado intended to trade either David Aebischer
or Peter Budaj. Instead, Vitali was given the start against the Boston Bruins, and
looked solid, keeping good position in the crease and knocking down some tough chances through traffic. In
the end, Kolesnik picked up his first win of his NHL career, stopping twenty shots in a 4-1 win. Vitali was
named the game's #2 star after allowing only a goal to Marco Sturm.
