Simon made his first National Hockey League appearance on March 7, 2002, when his Ottawa Senators travelled to San Jose to take on the Sharks. Starter Patrick Lalime, after giving up five goals on twenty-one shots, was pulled at the 16:30 mark of the second period, and Lajeunesse stopped all nice shots he faced the rest of the way in a 2-5 defeat.
