WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Leclaire had a tough season last year, losing his starting role to injury. Regardless, he was still a consensus Top 10 pick this summer. He has fantastic fundamentals and reflexes and has as quick a glove hand as you can get. Has good size and is highly competitive. Raises his level for the big games. A future franchise goalie. The Blue Jackets look set with Denis and Leclaire." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 152)

"The Blue Jackets passed on Dan Blackburn to take Leclaire No. 8 overall in last year's entry draft. If they had to do it over again, they'd do it all over again. The team loves Leclaire's size, agility and instinct and they're enamored with his mental approach as well. Leclaire has been solid for the Rocket in the Quebec League this season. He performed reasonably well for Canada in the World Junior Championship until a subpar final game. Unless Tugnutt or Denis is traded, look for Leclaire in Syracuse next season." (Aaron Portzline, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)

"At the 2002 WJC, Leclaire finished second in save percentage (.937) and goals-against average (1.80), leading Canada to a silver medal. He then was impressive in the QMJHL playoffs, leading the Montreal Rocket to a near upset of the Hull Olympiques. Leclaire has outstanding agility, quickness and technique. He played for the lowest-scoring team in the "Q" but kept them in the game almost every night. With Ron Tugnutt now a member of the Stars, Leclaire should see his first NHL minutes in 2002-03 as a backup to Marc Denis. If the Jackets prefer to add a veteran, Leclaire will receive plenty of ice time in the AHL." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 146)

"Leclaire has ranged from being sharp to shabby in his first pro season, being outplayed by unheralded collegiate grad Karl Goehring. The Blue Jackets are not seriously worried, though. Leclaire, just 20, shows great reflexes and athletic ability, especially given his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. Before the season started, the Blue Jackets planned to give Leclaire 10 or 15 starts at the NHL level, but that plan has been scrapped, or at least downsized. He might see a couple of games in Columbus, but not until late in the season." (Aaron Portzline, The Hockey News Future Watch 2003, p. 25)
