"The team is convinced Maracle can be an NHL goaltender. The only question is whether he'll play in Detroit, which already has Chris Osgood and Kevin Hodson. Maracle has excellent reflexes and a solid glove hand. "He has been our most valuable player in Adirondack last year and this year," [Detroit general manager Ken] Holland said. "He has almost developed into a franchise-type player at the AHL level. Now it's time to find out what he can do at the next level."" (Chuck Carlton, The Hockey News Future Watch 1998)
"In 1998-99, Maracle played well enough in Detroit to send Kevin Hodson packing and established himsef as the backup goalie. However, when the playoffs rolled around and Chris Osgood went down with an injury, it was veteran Bill Ranford who got the call. Maracle has a tendency to flop around in his crease. However, he also makes some saves that remind one of a certain Czech superstar. Maracle should back up Rhodes unless Schwab beats him out of the job, or until Langkow is ready." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 126)
"Rather small in size, Maracle counts on his quick reflexes to get by. Has enjoyed success everywhere he has played - but a wishy-washy defense didn't help his numbers in 1999-2000. Although he's had a few bouts with inconsistency, Maracle has proven he can play in the NHL - as a backup. If Maracle steps up to the challenge and becomes more consistent, it would be to firm up a position that currently seems shaky." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 115)
"Maracle had a roller-coaster ride instead of a regular season in 2000-01. He was dispatched to the IHL early in training camp because of a lack of conditioning. Maracle fell as far down as fifth on the Thrashers' goaltending depth chart before mounting his improbable comeback within the organization. The acrobatic backstop turned his season - perhaps his career - around and wound up as Atlanta's top netminder by the end of the campaign. When he's on Maracle can steal a victory by himself. He has catlike quickness and a flair for the dramatic in goal. Unfortunately, his bad days are too frequent for the NHL." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 117)
