- On February 1, 1980, Markus was in net when Wayne Gretzky recorded the first of his National Hockey League hat tricks. After Pierre Hamel gave up "The Great One"'s first two, Markus relieved him, giving up the third in an eventual 9-2 loss.
- Markus recorded the first shutout in the history of the Winnipeg Jets' National Hockey League franchise on February 12, 1980. He stopped twenty New York Islander shots in a 0-0 draw on Long Island. Markus also recorded the first home shutout in Jets' history, on March 26 of the same year.
- On January 28, 1984, Wayne Gretzky's National Hockey League-record fifty-one game consecutive points streak came to an end against Markus and the Los Angeles Kings.
