• In 1945, Frank became the fourth National Hockey League goaltender to record four shutouts in one postseason, as he led the Maple Leafs to the Stanley Cup in his rookie season. He would retire before getting the chance to defend the title.

DID YOU KNOW?

• Frank earned his nickname because he played despite battling debilitating stomach ulcers throughout his career. His teammates used to tease him by hiding his medication, much to his chagrin. "One morning, McCool showed up early for practice and asked a young equipment assistant if he could borrow his hammer. The youngster went about the business of setting out rolls of tape and sticks for the day's workout, but couldn't help notice the methodical pounding coming from inside the dressing room. He entered to find McCool nailing each player's skates to the bench. The players stopped hiding his medicine." (The Hockey News - The Lighter Side of Hockey, 2005)
