WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
"Outstanding prospect has mystery ailment that causes body to cramp up."
(Dan Barnes, The Hockey News Future Watch 1995)
"The 5-foot-9, 165-pound goalie is the only member of the Oilers' top 10
prospects not drafted by the Oilers. Passmore has resurrected his career
after missing all but two games in the 1995-96 season due to a recurring
muscle cramping condition. When he and fellow prospect J.F. Labbe didn't beat Bob
Essensa for the job backing Curtis Joseph,
Passmore was sent to Hamilton and later San Antonio. Passmore struggled,
but by February he was back in Hamilton and playing well." (Dan Barnes,
The Hockey News Future Watch 1998)
"Top goalie in minors hadn't had NHL shot until recent stint with Oilers."
(Rob Tychkowski, The Hockey News Future Watch 1999)
"At age 25, the diminutive goalie finally made his NHL debut in 1998-99.
Despite being saddled with a brutal surname for a goalkeeper, Passmore
looks capable of being a capable backup performer. The 5-9, 165 pounder
may never be able to be the main man because of his lack of durability.
However, Passmore has elastic qualities which make his reaction-style
effective. Passmore will be a solid No. 2 goalkeeper for years to come,
barrind an unforeseen training camp collapse." (The Sports Forecaster
1999-2000, p. 154)
"Passmore's quickness and agility are his strongest assets. He's able to
make the first save but has had a difficulty handling rebounds at the NHL
level. If either Stephane Fiset or Jamie Storr goes down because of injury, or if a trade
involving either one is eventually consummated, Passmore should step in as
the understudy." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 203)
"The Blackhawks dealt Passmore to Los Angeles last season in order to give
him more playing time at the NHL level. However, they quickly realized
they had nobody better and repatriated the likable netminder. Unfortunately
for his career, Passmore had been handed a golden opportunity to be the
Kings' No. 1 goalie and failed. The 5-9 165-pounder is a quick, acrobatic
goaltender that can come in and steal a few victories in the short term.
As such, he's the ideal backup." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 147)
"Passmore returned to Chicago last year and pushed No. 1 netminder
Jocelyn Thibault for the starting job late in
the season. He appeared in three playoff games against St. Louis and has earned
some support to be the main man within the Chicago heirarchy. However, the
diminutive yet combatative goalkeeper is prone to bad periods, bad goals and
even stretches of bad hockey. As a result, the jury is still out as to whether
he can step into the No. 1 role. While goalies of Passmore's ilk have made it
big later on in their careers, the 29-year-old is more likely to remain a
quality backup at the NHL level." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 141)

DID YOU KNOW?
- Steve has suffered from heavy-metal poisoning in the past; according to him, his levels of copper, arsenic, magnesium and antimony were "off the charts". This caused severe muscle cramping, and threatened his career, until he was cured.
- Steve's favourite goaltenders as a kid were Ken Dryden and Mike Palmateer. In fact, Steve wears the number 29 because both Dryden and Palmateer did.
