Dimitri made his National Hockey League debut on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The trade of Vesa Toskala opened up the door for Patzold to back up Evgeni Nabokov in the San Jose net. When the hometown Avalanche opened up a 6-1 advantage midway through the third period, the Sharks pulled Nabokov in favour of Patzold. Patzold made two saves in his 11:47 of action, allowing San Jose to pull within 6-2 of Colorado.
