Karri made his National Hockey League debut on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. Tampa Bay starter Marc Denis was not allowed into Canada due to visa issues, so the Lightning called up Ramo to back up Johan Holmqvist against the Senators. Ramo entered the game after Holmqvist allowed four goals on seven Ottawa shots. Ramo faced eighteen shots, allowing goals to Jason Spezza and Antoine Vermette, as Tampa Bay fell by a 5-2 score.
On December 20, 2007, Karri earned his first National Hockey League victory, a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. Ramo made thirty-one saves in his first career start, one day after being recalled from Norfolk of the AHL. "We were really desperate for a win," said Ramo. "Everybody was so pumped up to win this game." Ramo was not severely tested during the first half of the game, but did stop Mats Sundin's shot from the right circle on a late first-period Toronto power play. He made several strong saves, including an in-close try by Boyd Devereaux. "He obviously gave us a chance to win," Tampa Bay assistant coach Mike Sullivan said. "I thought he made key big saves at some critical times. To have success in this league, you have to get timely saves, and I thought he did that for us."
