FIRSTS:

• Curtis made his National Hockey League debut on October 17, 2002 against Columbus. Recalled from AHL Worcester after both Brent Johnson and Fred Brathwaite suffered injuries, Curtis started the contest as backup to Reinhard Divis. However, with 53 seconds remaining in the first period, Divis had to leave as a result of a strained groin with St. Louis up, 3-0. Sanford made twelve saves in his National Hockey League debut, and did not allow a goal until Jaroslav Spacek tallied on the power play with 48 seconds remaining.
• Curtis earned his first National Hockey League victory two nights later, on October 19, 2002, in a 5-3 win over the visiting Dallas Stars. Sanford stopped twenty-three Dallas shots, including all twelve in the third period, as the Blues scored the final three goals of the game to take the win. "I felt pretty good right from the start," Sanford said. "I felt pretty confident when I first got out there. The team played great in front of me."
