WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
"Had good training camp and has blossomed since coming to North America."
(The Hockey News Future Watch 1999)
"Tall and lanky, Stana has good lateral movement. Although a stand-up goalie,
Stana's style isn't what North American fans are used to seeing. Arrived in
the WHL in 1998-99 and got his game going in the later stages. However, his
chances of breaking through and getting a chance in Washington's ranks soon are
not very good due to the backlog of quality goaltending in the system."
(The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 146)
"Has improved each year and played very well in brief stint with Portland."
(Dave Fay, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)
TRANSACTIONS:
- Selected by Washington Capitals in seventh round (193rd overall) during National Hockey League entry draft, 1998.
- Signed with Sodertalje SK (Swedish Elitserein), May 26, 2004.
ACCOLADES:
INJURIES:
FIRSTS:
- Rastislav made his National Hockey League debut on November 14, 2003. In a home Washington Capitals
game against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, Capitals starter Olaf Kolzig was
pulled after falling behind 5-2 forty minutes in. Stana stopped all seven shots he faced in the third period
for Washington.
- Stana made his first National Hockey League start, and earned his first National Hockey League victory,
on November 24, 2003. In their first game after they were blasted by team owner Ted Leonsis, the Capitals
went to Joe Louis Arena to face the powerful Detroit Red Wings, but Stana was up to the task, stopping
thirty-eight stops in a 4-1 victory. Only a third-period goal by Kris Draper spoiled the shutout bid for the
young Slovakian. "It would have been nice to have a shutout, but I am still happy with the win," Stana said
afterwards. "I was a little bit nervous at first, but then I just started preparing for the game and as soon
as I got in net tonight I was ready for it. I made a first save on the first shot and that helps a lot."
Stana was chosen as the #2 star of the game.
PENALTY SHOTS:
