WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Winningest goalie in U.S. college hockey history must work on patience, but is solid NHL prospect." (Mike Heika, The Hockey News Future Watch 1998)

"Turco, 23, could be ready to step up to the NHL soon. In his first season of International League play following a stellar college career, he has impressed scouts with his cool calm and quick reactions. Still, the Stars aren't about to put any undue pressure on him. "Let's keep this in perspective," [Dallas director of player personnel Craig] Button said. "He was playing 40 games a year in college. He still needs to learn how to function in a pro system."" (Mike Heika, The Hockey News Future Watch 1999)

"A great collegiate netminder at Michigan, where he was 127-28-7 lifetime, Turco took part in the IHL's all-star game last season. Just needs a little more seasoning. Small in stature, but big in heart, Turco's known for his reflexes and good positioning." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 201)

"A strong, athletic goalie who is the Stars' future in net, Turco still needs to put in more hard work, [Dallas director of player personnel Craig] Button said. "He has moved from 60-grit sandpaper to 90-grit," Button said. Turco's stats are down this season because Michigan (International League) has struggled. But Turco was the IHL rookie of the year last season and was the top goalie at the IHL All-Star Game, confirming Dallas' belief that his upside is outstanding." (Mike Heika, The Hockey News Future Watch 2000)

"Arguably the top prospect in the Stars organization, Turco becomes Ed Belfour's third backup in three seasons (the Stars previously lost both Roman Turek and Manny Fernandez to expansion). Turco, who steps in with solid credentials, has spent the last two seasons in the IHL and has nothing left to prove at the minor-league level. He should get 20 starts. Turco possesses great speed and an excellent glove hand. According to many observers, he'll be a good one." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 198)

"Turco got his lucky break last season when No. 1 man Ed Belfour bolted the team for a few days. The 26-year-old performed extremely well and was a big reason why the Stars didn't miss a beat without their starting netminder. While Turco isn't particularly big, he covers a lot of net with agility and sound positioning. His lightning-quick glove hand made more than one highlight reel. Had the best save percentage in the league. With Belfour, Turco cannot expect to start more than 20-25 games. However, his day is coming fast. Soon he'll be the main man between the pipes." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 204)

"After two seasons of challenging Ed Belfour, Turco enters the new season as the Stars' main man between the pipes. Turco was spectacular at times last season. He finished third in NHL goals-against average, tied for third in save percentage and posted an impressive 15-6-2 mark. The 27-year-old has an excellent glove hand and is extremely quick. He anticipates well and is always focused. His development is no surprise to the organization. It's now time to see how Turco handles the No. 1 role. He should again be among the league leaders in most statistical categories and start 50-55 contests." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 198)

"Turco finished third in the NHL with a 1.98 goals-against average in 2003-04 - despite a heavy workload. However, he collapsed in the playoffs, and needs to redeem himself after the long layoff. He's an elite goalie that plays a ton of games behind a stingy defense. He handles the puck like an extra defenseman." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 105)
