The Unofficial Kevin Weekes "Shady 80" Website. Michael Oglesby does an excellent job at keeping this site up-to-date; I especially enjoyed the collection of mask images - there were a few that I'd never seen before. Also a lot of good pictures! If you're a fan of Kevin's - or even if you're not - check it out!

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Weekes was acquired form the Panthers in the Pavel Bure trade and is considered to be the future in goal for Vancouver. After going winless in his early Canucks career, Weekes needs to quickly establish himself for a team in desperate need of a go-to netminder. Weekes uses his incredible athletic ability to get the job done. He needs to bear down during crucial moments and not get down after letting in a softy. Weekes will be given every opportunity to win the starter's role. If he fails, he may not get another chance for quite some time." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 189)

"Weekes is back in Florida. The one-time member of state-rival Florida Panthers - traded twice in less than a year, from Vancouver to the Islanders to the Lightning - is a talented netminder despite facts that point to the contrary. The athletic goaltender's 1999-2000 statistics don't reflect his true value. But whose numbers would with the lowly Islanders? Dating back to his junior days, Weekes has often played with losing clubs during his hockey career. If that's not a character builder - especially for a goaltender - nothing is. The determined athlete will likely prosper with the up-and-coming Lightning." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 130)

"The well-traveled goalkeeper made no secret of his disappointment after the acquisition by Tampa Bay of Nikolai Khabibulin late last season. Weekes felt he deserved a better fate, after posting four shutouts, 20 wins and a .898 save percentage in 61 appearances for the woeful Lightning. Unfortunately, life - and hockey - aren't about what's fair. Weekes has enough ability to be considered at least a 1A goaltender, if not the main man altogether. It's highly unlikely that the 26-year-old will accept the backup role this season. He may use a strong performance at training camp as a springboard for yet another trade." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 132)

"Weekes made a name for himself after coming over in a late-season trade with Tampa Bay, delivering awesome playoff performances against both New Jersey and Montreal. Unfortunately, he could not maintain his high level of play and was replaced by Arturs Irbe for the rest of Carolina's playoff run. When on his game, Weekes is as flashy and spectacular as any NHL goalie. He has tremendous agility and refuses to quit on a play, although he is prone to the occasional bad goal. Still, his game took a major step forward in 2001-02. The 'Canes won't hesitate to play Weekes should something happen to Irbe." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 120)

"Weekes emerged as the top goalie last fall. If the team sticks to its plan, it will be a rare full-time assignment for Weekes, who has never posted a winning record in six NHL seasons. Weekes proved during the 2002 playoffs and again early last season that he can come through with dynamic performances. However, he never fully regained that form after suffering a concussion in late November last season. Weekes finished with a career-best five shutouts and has earned the confidence of the team that he'll get the job done. There should be no controversy at this position, something that was a distraction last season when Irbe fussed about a lack of playing time." (Sporting News Hockey 2003-04, p. 37)

"Weekes was great in a losing cause with Carolina in 2003-04, which is why the Rangers signed him in the summer of 2004. A human highlight film, Weekes' unbelievable reflexes often lead to spectacular saves. Furthermore, he has improved his consistency over time. Will compete with rookie Henrik Lundqvist." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 105)
