Tyler's National Hockey League debut came on October 4, 2007, at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee. With Jose Theodore nursing an injury, Weiman was the backup for Colorado's season opener against Dallas the night before, and for the game in Nashville. Early in the third period, Nashville opened up a 4-0 lead and Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville pulled starter Peter Budaj in favour of Weiman. "I wanted to get Tyler into the game to see how he would handle it," said Quenneville. Weiman stopped all ten shots he faced in the final 15:46 of the game. Remarked the Colorado coach: "I thought he did a great job in net and handled the challenge well. At that time it was 4-0, so it was an easy call."
